    • AN ASSESSMENT OF WHITEFISH (ERYTHROCULTER ILISHAEFORMIS) POPULATION IN DANJIANGKOU RESERVOIR AND RATIONAL EXPLOITATION OF THE RESOURCE

      Abstract:The whitefish, Erythroculter ilishaeformis (Bleeker), is one of the important econmical fishes in the Danjiangkou Reservoir. This paper deals with the age growth, mortality of the whitefish as well as its harmfulness to the fingerlings of silver and bighead carps. In addition, population dynamics and rational exploitation of the fish are also discussed. The main technical calculation and chart are computationally processed by adoption of Schaefer and Beverton-Holt models. The results show:1. The growth of the whitefish in Danjiangkou Reservoir corresponds with von Bertalanffy's growth equations: The turning point of body weight and growth is at 3.4110 years.2. In Danjiangkou Reservoir, the fishing mortality coefficient F is 0.1050, the total mortality coefficient Z is 0.5129, and the natural mortality M is 0.4079.3. According to Schaefer model, the maximum sustainable yield (MSY) of the fish in Danjiangkou Reservoir is 113210 Kg, and the optimal fishing effort (Fmsy) is 458164 Kg/day,T.4. When body length of the whitefish is from 366.7 to 395.5 mm, it would swollow the silver carp of 116.6 to 132.1 mm in length and bighead of 94.4 to 132.1 mm. If the first capture age of the whitefish is about 2.5 years (with body length of 400 mm and body weight of 900 g and mesh of gill net of 100-110mm), it would do no harm to the silver and bighead carps, for they are 167 and 183 mm in length respectively.5. If the age at first capture remains 2.5, the yield of whitefish will be 2.65 times as much as that at present, with the fishing Ievel F is 0.2.

      Abstract:The cell strain AHZC 88 of anti-hemorrhage of grass carp has been obtained by repeatedly UV inducement on strain ZC 7901 from the snout tissue cell sensitive to hemorrhage of grass carp. Identification of its biological characteristic showed that its chromosome number was 2n=48,the range of its suitable temperature was between 4-38℃, the optimal growth was 27℃, and mitotic index reached to maximum in 36 hours. The infective test with the pathogenic virus of hemorrhage proved that the cell strain AHZC 88 was not infected with the hemorrhage virus. The observation under electron microscope showed that there was no virosome in the cell of strain. The analysis of LDH isoenzyme displayed five zones which were different from the sensitive cell strain.

      Abstract:In this study, the normal embryonic development of Sillago japonica egg was divided into 27 stages from fertilization to hatching. The sensitivity of eggs to thermal shock, drop shock and ultraviolet irradiation at each developmental stages were compared. Elevation of temperature greatly affects the development particularly during two periods, the early cleavage stage and the stage of late gastrula to closure of blastopore. Drop shock sensitivity during late cleavage to appearance of embryo was higher than that in the other stages. However,in the case of ultraviolet irradiation, the stage of appearance of embryo revealed the highest sensitivity. In this paper, the reasons for the different effects observed at similar developmental stages on the fish egg were described, and suggestion for avoiding these environmental effects on fish eggs at their higher sensitivity developmental stages was also made for the protection of fisheries resource and process of egg incubation.

      Abstract:This paper deals with the experiments of feeding habits and growth of larval Clarias lazera. Two or three days after they were hatched, the larvae began to feed, though their yolk sac still remained. The total length of larvae are 5-5.5 mm; their oral width are 132-138μ, and the initial food are rotifers. With the growth of larvae, the feeding ratio of cladoceran, copepods and chironomids increases repidly. Rhythm of feeding intensity is obvious during the day and night. The highest feeding intensity is 18:00-22:00 at night. The relationship of total length with age falls on a straight line, but that of weight with age is exponential. The regression equation of total length, weight and age is determined through calculation based on the measurement of 174 individuals. The general equation for the larvae can be expressed as W = 0.004927 L(a.1988).

      Abstract:The oxygen consumption, CO2 production and ammonia-N excretion were measured for the parent prawn, Penaeus orientalis under their non-feeding and resting conditions. The repiratory quotient, the ratio of oxygen to nitrogen and metabolic substrate ratio were used to describe substrate metabolism of the prawn. Experiment indicated that oxidation of protein dominated energy metabolism, while lipid was the second source of the energy metabolism. Oxygen consumption was negatively correlated with body weight of prawn, but it increased with development of ovary.

    • A PRELIMINARY STUDY ON MIGRATION AND DISTRIBUTION PATTERNS OF RELEASED PRAWN IN THE COASTAL WATER OF CENTRAL YELLOW SEA

      Abstract:By analysing a series of statistics of marked-and-recaptured prawns, the records of recaptured prawns in fishing grounds, monitoring of the migration and distribution of the released prawns and the hydrology of the seven area bays along the coast of central yellow sea, the distribution and migration of the released prawn population and the variation of central fishing ground were studied and described.The results show that every year in the middle of June and beginning of July, the newly released young prawns mainly inhabit in the shallow estuary of the bay, and gradually they disperse to surrouding vicinity for feeding. In the first and second 10 days of August, the main group of prawns leave from the low salinity and high temperature region in the bay (salinity 28-30‰, temperature 25-29℃), and migrate to 5-15m depth region out of the bay, later on the prawn population tends to feed at more than 20m depth with high salinity and temperature region (salinity 31-32.5‰, temperature 20-23℃). The last ten days of October (bottom water temperature 18-19℃) is the peak of spawning season, which ends in the first ten days of November, then the prawn groups disperse and enter the overwintering grounds.

    • MANUFACTURE OF MEAT-TEXTURED FISH PROTEIN CONCENTRATE

      Abstract:Meat-textured fish protein concentrate (MT-FPC) is a new product developed in 1980's. The new technology for processing MT-FPC was studied in this experiment. Raw materials used in the experiment are some of the middle and upper layers of fishes in China Sea such as sardine, round sead, mackerel and black scraper, Based on the physical-chemistry properties of meat, a new technology was proposed through repeated experiments and studies.The procedures for processing technology are as follows: The sample fish is deheaded, viscerated and skined, and then added properly an amount of sodium chloride to adjust pH to about 7.5. The flesh is mechanically pressed and twisted. After that, treat the flesh with alcohol twice. If the adipose fish is used as raw material, the flesh should be extracted with hot alcohol. Finally, the treated fish flesh is dried to the desired moisture content, and thus the product of high protein content with less lipid is obtained. The rehydration capacity of the product reaches 5 times. The relative recovery of fish flesh is above 17%. Since the loss of protein during process is a little, the fish flesh is fully exploited.

      Abstract:In studying the growth of taihu new-ice-fish, Neosalanx taihuensis Chen, in spring 1984, 3045 mature parent fishes were caught with ice-fish nats in the Lake Taihu. Through artificial fertilization, 503471 fertilized eggs were obtained and transplanted from Taihu to Beijing. After that 357451 larvae were incubated by artificial incubation and subsequently released in the water bodies of various types. Through collecting sample during an annual cycle the specimens used for this study were collected, and the results of our study are summarized as follows:1) the weight-length relationship may be expressed by the following formulae:2) From the von Bertalanffy's growth equation the correlation formulas have been computed as follows:3) The results of computation indicated that the absolute increasing value of the length was maximum at 2 ages in month old and that of the weight was maximum at 5 ages in month old.

      Abstract:A species of Chaenogobius collected in the south of Zhejiang province during 1984 is described as a new species. It is very similar to Chaenogoius mororanus in the sensory papillae, but differs in the coloration and in the number of fin rays and scales. The description of the present species is as follows:Chaenogobius transverse fasiatus Wu et Zhou sp. nov.D Ⅵ—Ⅶ, Ⅰ—9—10: AⅠ—9—10; P_1 18—20; P_2 Ⅰ—5; C.17—19. Giil rakers 2—3+7—8. LR 79—81; TR 20—22; Pred. S 17—22.Body depth 4.8—6.4 in length, width 6.7—8.0, head 3.1—3.4。Snout 3.0—4.0 in head, eye 5.8—7.2, interorbital 4.5—5.0.This new species is similar to Chaenogobius mororanus (Jordan et Snyder). But it differs from the latter in having 9—10 irregular dark transverse bands on the lateral side of the body (vs. the dots gathered in clouds and reticuations on the upper parts); 79—81 scales in the longitudinal rows (vs. 88—91); 20—22 in the transverse rows (vs. 27—28); 17—23 predorsal scales (vs. absent); counts of second dorsal fin rays Ⅰ—9—10 (vs. Ⅰ—12—14); anal fin rays Ⅰ—9—10 (vs. Ⅰ—12—14).Holotype No. SFC—916 Length without caudal 62 mm, collected from Cangnan Shuitou (Ao-jiang river), Zhejiang Province on April, 1984, kept in the Freshwater Fisheries Institute of Zhejiang province.Paratype Nos. SFC-915, 917, 918, 919 Length without caudal 49.5-62 mm.all collected with the holotype. No. SFC-920 Length without caudal 62 mm, collected from Wenzhou (Ou-jiang river), Zhejiang Province on September, 1984, all paratypes are kept in the Laboratory of Fishes (Shanghai Fisheries University) and Freshwater Fisheries Institute of Zhejiang Province.
